The Timber Rattlesnake is a very widespread species of rattlesnake that is found in much of the eastern United States. Growing to over 6 feet in length, small rodents rodents are its prime food source, though it is an opportunistic feeder. In the winter, this species brumates (the correct substitute for "hibernate" when applied to ectotherms) in crevices with other snakes. Previously found in southern Canada and more expansively everywhere in forested areas, it has been mainly limited to ideal patches of ideal habitat that remain, sparsely inhabiting its range due to human encroachment and habitat destruction.
