The four bellbirds, of the Procnias genus in the cotinga family of tropical America are the loudest birds on the planet. The Central American Three-wattled Bellbird is altitude-migratory, mainly breeding in the higher cloud forests of Costa Rica, and then moving out to lower altitude forest, including those found north, to Honduras, and southeast, to Panama. The only bellbird found outside of South America, it is vulnerable to deforestation, which has greatly reduced its breeding and nonbreeding habitat over the last century, as forest has been cut for timber and to make way for human population centers and farmland.
