The Chestnut Oak is a species of tree in the white oak group of the Quercus genus. Found in much of Appalachia, mainly in the mountains and foothills from Maine to Mississippi, this sturdy tree is very identifiable both due to its gray, ridged bark, and its shallowly lobed leaves, that superficially resemble those of chestnut trees, though the lobes are rounded. Quercus montana is one of our focus species that we intend to vigorously replant.
