The Ornate Hawk-Eagle is a large, crested raptor species found from Mexico south, through much of tropical America, mainly inhabiting lowland forest and forest edges. This booted eagle mainly preys upon birds and mammals (including rodents and smaller monkeys), though it will take reptiles such as iguanas and snakes. This species is threatened by the tremendous habitat loss through deforestation that is afflicting the vast majority of tropical America (and, though not applicable to this bird, North America).
