A beautifully unique hummingbird with striking metallic plumage, the Long-tailed Sylph occupies a very narrow range that runs along the southern/eastern side of the Andean foothills from Venezuela to Bolivia, occupying a transitional zone between the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, where springs form streams and cascade down through lush green cloud forest, to form the headwaters of the largest freshwater system on the planet. As of now, it is not threatened because of the length of its preferred habitat, but humans are invading its home to destroy it through deforestation more and more.
