The largest species of turtle in the world (measuring up to 7 ft. in total length, and weighing up to over 1,500 lbs) the Leatherback is a marine reptile that is found virtually worldwide in warm and temperate ocean waters. It is a vulnerable species overall, with many endangered populations. Though it has not been hunted for its meat as much as other sea turtle species, pollution presents a serious and increasing threat to this species worldwide.
