The Toco Toucan is the largest species of toucan. It is found in much of central and eastern South America, but not in the dense parts of Amazon rainforest, as it prefers mainly open habitat, such as tree-lined savannah and tropical dry forest. It feeds on fruit and small animals, including lizards, frogs, and smaller birds. Though it does not depend on dense forest as much as other toucan species, it is susceptible to habitat loss through mass deforestation, which has seen a tremendous increase over the last several decades.
