The Royal Sunangel is a deep blue/violet hummingbird (male) which has an extremely limited range, as it is only found in small patches of ideal habitat from southern Ecuador to northern Peru. It is endangered, as is the stability of the tiny range it inhabits in the Andean-Amazon traditional zone. A halt to further deforestation and vigorous replanting of native vegetation is likely the only way to prevent this natural jewel's extinction, which will likely occur in the coming decades.
