The Mountain Bluebird is one of three bluebird species in the thrush family. Unlike the Eastern and Western Bluebirds, the adult male does not have rufous-orange on the breast, and is a paler, sky blue overall. This bird breeds from Alaska south, through much of western North America, and winters from the central western US to central Mexico. Though not officially endangered, the Mountain Bluebird's numbers have declined by about 25% over the last half century. This bird benefits from bluebird boxes that can greatly increase nesting success.
