Harris's Hawk is a raptor that is found from the southwestern United States to southern South America, where it prefers open habitat, such as desert, savannah, and even swampland. They mainly hunt rodents, but will also take reptiles and birds as prey. Over the last 50 years, the population of this species has decreased by about 60%, mainly due to habitat loss and fragmentation, as scrubby brushland is cleared for farmland and the expansion of human population centers.
