The Great Kiskadee is a large, yellow-bellied flycatcher named for the sound it makes, and colloquially called "pecho amarillo" (descriptive, for "yellow chest"), "bien-te-veo" (onomatopoeia, meaning "I see you well"), "bicho-feo" (onomatopoeia, meaning "ugly creature") and "cristo-rey" (onomatopoeia, meaning "Christ the king") in Spanish, and "bem-te-vi" (onomatopoeia, meaning "I see you well") in Portuguese in certain regions. Common and widespread, it is commonly found from extreme south-central United States through Mexico, Central America, and most of South America, east of the Andes, to southern Argentina, it has been expanding its range to the north in the US, and has been spotted in the northern US, even during winter!
