A striking species from the very large tanager family Thraupidae, the Golden-hooded Tanager is found from southern Mexico, through much of Central America, to northwestern Colombia, and along the Pacific side of Colombia to Ecuador. It is naturally found in humid lowland forest, but will visit plantations and gardens where forest has been destroyed.
