The Giant Hummingbird is the largest species of hummingbird, and it is approximately the length of a Northern Cardinal. This beautifully unique, but dull bird is found throughout much of the Andean foothills on both slopes, particularly in shrubby scrubland that matches its plumage. This habitat is incredibly biodiverse, but increasingly under threat due to mining and deforestation below the treeline.
