The Copperhead is a venomous pit viper that is widely distributed through the southeastern United States. Very closely-related to the Cottonmouth/Water mocassin, the Copperhead is not restricted to aquatic habitat, and has proven to be very open to living near human populations; however, in general, humans are much less open to this arrangement, which often leads to the unnecessary demise of individuals of this marvelous species, which has a venom less potent than that of the most other representatives of the Viperidae family. Like most pit vipers, it is a very opportunistic feeder, taking any small animal it can.
