The Blue Grosbeak is a large bunting that is found in much of the southern half of the United States, and in some cases, further north in the breeding season, and in Mexico and Central America during the winter, though it also breeds in some parts of this region (notably, in northwestern Costa Rica). It feeds on insects and other invertebrates, as well as seeds and grains. It is very similar to the Indigo Bunting in all plumages, but its much thicker bill, larger size, body shape, and the appearance of chestnut wing bars can help distinguish these two Passerina species.
