The Green-crowned Brilliant is a large hummingbird that is found in patches of forested habitat from Costa Rica, clockwise through parts of Panama and western Colombia, to western Ecuador. Like many limited-range species, particularly of hummingbirds, it is very susceptible to habitat loss, which has already pushed it into what remaining forest has not been converted to open farmland and human population center in its range, and its outlook could become bleak very fast if recent deforestation trends are not tremendously curbed and reversed.
