A majestic species that is often laden with epiphytes, such as bromeliads and ferns, and covered in moss, Quercus Costaricensis is an oak of the Talamanca range of Costa Rica and Panama, often found along with the Talamancan White Oak. One of the pillars of its ecosystem, such avian wonders as Resplendent Quetzals, Emerald Toucanets, Harpy Eagles, and countless tanagers, migratory songbirds, and hummingbirds can be seen among its branches. Belonging to the red oak section of the genus, the Cloud Forest Red Oak is mostly restricted to remaining high elevation humid forest, most of which is protected, but is threatened by its very limited range and logging.
