The Cherrybark Oak is a sturdy species that is very similar to Southern Red Oak (in fact, it was once considered a subspecies of it), but it can grow larger. Belonging to the red oak section of the Quercus genus, it is found in the southern United States, this species is valued for its lumber, which in turn, causes it to be logged, and creates tremendous vacancies in our forests. Every single specimen that is hundreds of years old has likely provided for millions of vertebrates and billions of invertebrates, as well as countless epiphytic plants over the course of its life. One of our top priorities is planting (and replanting) hardwood trees, including oaks, as they are such integral parts of every ecosystem in which they are found.
