Adult Bur Oak T-shirt

A mighty oak species of the middle of the United States and extreme southern Canada, this tree is recognizable with its gray, deeply-furrowed bark with long vertical ridges. Also known as mossycup oak, the Bur oak's acorns are large, and grow in a fibrous cup. Slow growing and long-lived, it belongs to the white oak section of the Quercus genus, and can reach over 10 feet in diameter, over 160 feet in height with a very large crown spread, and live for over 400 years. Each long-lived bur oak will provide for millions of individual birds and other vertebrates over the years.
