The Baltimore Oriole is one of only two widespread oriole species commonly found in eastern and most of central North America (along with Orchard Oriole) during the breeding season, where it constructs hanging nests. It winters in Central and northern South America, though a small number of individuals have overwintering in the north more and more. The male sings a beautiful flutelike, chortling song, and the female also sings a variation of the male's song. The adult male is unmistakable, but juveniles and females are quite variable, and can be confused with Orchard and Bullock's Orioles. This bird's diet includes insects and spiders, nectar, and fruit. The Baltimore Oriole has been declining in recent decades due to habitat loss in North, Central, and South America.
