The Andean Condor, a majestic new world vulture, has one of the largest wingspans of any extant species (top 10 overall, and the largest of any species other than several albatrosses and pelicans, measuring up to 11 ft from tip to tip). It soars above the mountains and foothills, from Venezuela, counterclockwise along the world's longest uninterrupted mountain range, the Andes, to the very bottom of South America. A carrion feeder, it is superficially similar from afar to the California Condor of the southwestern United States, though it weighs less on average, but is wider across the wings.
